Customising a World War Two Day for your School

Harry Shrapnel's Customised World War Two Days

"Please find enclosed mountain of letters from the children, after your visit to Park Primary....

...As you will see, everyone loved the day and it started our WW2 work in a fun and exciting way....

....Even the children who weren't there have heard all about it from their friends.I was suprised how many of them thought the dancing and singing were the best bits of the day, even the boys enjoyed these activities...

...We are still awaiting the dreaded Ofsted.....at least the children will be able to chat about WW2 with confidence"

Harry has helped organise World War Two 'Days' at various schools.Choose from a selection of actvities which you think will appeal most to your pupils and own situation. Harry is very experienced and flexible when you are wanting to plan an event like this.Included in the fee is an 'on site' (if required) planning session to help get the most benefit from the day.

Harry is keen to involve parents, grandparents, staff in joining in the activities.Performing some of the songs/ dances at the end of the day to parents/ younger pupils is always a rewarding experience.

The 'Day' includes the full World War Two presentation. This can be delivered  as a whole or in sections depending on your own preferences.

Choose activities to fill the day from -

  • Evacuees wave goodbye to parents and attend the first meeting with the Billeting Officer.Hosts come to collect the evacuees.

  • Air Raid Movement Session.A recreation of how an air raid affected the community.Listen to the sounds and music of the time.

Workers in the Factory         Children in the Playground

Shoppers in the street         Family at Home

  • Learn the popular Forties dance craze the 'Palais Glide'.Specially choreographed for Primary School pupils. The dance requires no contact. Similar to a line dance.Very enjoyable for all ages.Spot the references to Numeracy!!

  • Action Songs-Some specially written by Harry for Primary School aged pupils. Songs include

'I'm an A.R.P'

'The Ration Song'

'Who Do you Think you are Kidding Mr.Hitler'

'Run Rabbit Run'

'Leaning on the Lampost' (with Banjolele if Harry's feeling brave!)

'We're Going to the Country'

'Dig for Victory'

'Got no ipod'

Schools have also included their own teacher led actvities such as

  • Art and craft/technology session creating shelters /gasmasks/gasmask boxes
  • V.E. Day Party based loosely on rationed food of the time. This is an excellent way to finish the day and to involve parents. It can be a wonderful opportunity and time  for the children to perform to others.

Having short breaks for play / activities does give Harry an opprtunity to rest his voice a little .Hall time needs to be written into the programme for the Movement and Dance sessions.

REMEMBER-Harry has lots of experience in the logistics of the day. He'll support you through the planning of what should be an EXCITING and ENJOYABLE day for EVERYONE!
